ROC, SSM - Registering a sole proprietorship

some handy tips if you plan to go to The Mall ROC :
a. wear very light spaghetti strap tops and shorts because you are entering into an oven; for such a large hall space housing hundreds of people, there are only 3 airconds, 1 of which was not turned on today. i was definitely cooked by the time I left.
b. take an entire day off work as it will be about 3pm before you finish your mission of moving slowly from counter to counter.
c. go straight up to the ROC/SSM without stopping to talk to any 'runners'. they will promise you that they have contacts inside who will do it all, for a fee. Then you realise a little later, if you are alert enough, that they just fill up the forms for you - you still have to do all the dirty work of queuing, sweating etc etc. And then you realise that 'runners' are illegal anyway.

Didn't I read recently that Government departments are considerably more efficient both staff-wise as well as the environment? I must say the staff are more cheerful, although I don't know how they manage that in such cooker conditions, so credit must be given to them.

Pearl of the Orient:
It was a much-welcomed respite to Batu Ferringhi. As usual, the sight of water, the sound of waves rolling by is always good therapy. But take a walk towards the beach, and reality kicks in, much to my disappointment - it was filthy, with paper scraps on the beach, huts along the waterfront, and as soon as you look like you are stepping onto the sand from the hotel, someone asks if you want to parasail? or reflexology??

Looks like we have to look for a more private, serene beach holiday next time.

Penang drivers seem to be on permanent "Sunday cruise" and spaced out in the middle of the day. They don't recognise street signs, demarcation lines on the road, and much less care for whoever else is on the road. They just do as they please, change lanes whenever they want to - maybe they think they are invisible and invincible!
